A Faculty Retreat was organized for the faculty members of Gurukul College on 10th June 2021. It was to spend time in the presence of God reflecting upon the theme Resuscitate the Creation and to contemplate on how we can be creative in our theological education during this pandemic situation. Rev. A. Joshuva Peter, Executive Secretary of UELCI also joined us and encouraged us with his words and exhortation. The guest speaker for the occasion was Rev. Dr. Samuel W. Meshack, the former principal of Gurukul who serves presently as the Pro-Chancellor of Martin Lutheran Christian University, Shillong, Meghalaya. Dr. Samuel reminded us from 2 Corinthians 4:8-9 that though we are hard pressed from all sides during this Covid situation, we need to look for the opportunities to serve God and to do God’s will. He challenged us to continue to walk on the path of ‘bold theological vision’ for which Gurukul’s Vision and Mission was formulated by the visionary founders and leaders. He encouraged us to stop and think – What have we achieved so far? Where are we now? And where are we heading in this theological journey? The exhortation was to make our theological education more critical, contextual and creative, and make it ‘Outcome-based Education’.On behalf of the faculty members, Rev. Dr. Shanthi Monica and Rev. Dr. Mervin Boas shared their experiences and challenges faced in teaching as well as in family life during this pandemic. The Retreat ended with all the faculty members participating in the Holy Communion led by Rev. Dr. Songram Basumatary, Principal of Gurukul College.
