Appointment of Rev. Dr. Joseph Prabhakar Dayam as Principal

Rev. Dr. Joseph Prabhakar Dayam

The Executive Committee of the United Evangelical Lutheran Churches in India is pleased to announce the appointment of Rev. Dr. Joseph Prabhakar Dayam as the Principal of Gurukul Lutheran Theological College and Research Institute, effective 1 June 2026.

An ordained pastor of the Andhra Evangelical Lutheran Church, Rev. Dr. Dayam brings over three decades of distinguished service in theological education, pastoral ministry, academic leadership, and social engagement. He has served as pastor, professor, dean, and public theologian, contributing significantly to the life and witness of the Church and theological institutions in India and beyond.

Rev. Dr. Dayam received his theological education from the United Theological College, Bengaluru, Princeton Theological Seminary, Princeton, New Jersey, and the Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley, California.

A respected scholar and educator, Rev. Dr. Dayam understands theological education as a continuing practice of Christian discipleship that critically engages questions concerning God, creation, and the future of humanity while nurturing a transformative vision of life in the light of the Gospel.

During his tenure, Rev. Dr. Dayam envisions Gurukul being renewed in its historic commitment to Dalit, Adivasi, Tribal, and Feminist Studies while remaining firmly rooted in its Lutheran identity and engaging emerging ecumenical theological conversations with intellectual openness, critical reflection, and contextual relevance.

We offer our prayers and best wishes as he assumes this important responsibility in the service of the Church and society.
