The Gurukul community was delighted to welcome Rt. Rev. Dr. Stanley Jose- Christ Lutheran Church as the guest speaker for our Reformation Day celebration. In his inspiring address, Bishop Stanley Jose reminded us that “traditions and institutions are man-made and therefore cannot be considered holy in themselves.” He emphasized that reformation is a continuous process—something that must take place daily in our personal and communal lives. He further highlighted that reformation should go beyond spiritual and doctrinal renewal to embrace social and economic liberation, leading to holistic transformation in society. As part of the celebration, it is our cherished custom to release the Gurukul Daily Devotion. This year’s edition was joyfully presented by Dr. Devahi Selina and her team, and was officially released by Rt. Rev. Dr. Stanley Jose, marking a meaningful moment of inspiration and reflection for the entire community. Following this, Dr. David Blessington offered insightful reflections on the 500th Anniversary of the Peasant Movement, connecting it to the wider spirit of the Reformation. Though Martin Luther distanced himself from the movement due to his stand against violence, the reformation ideals nonetheless inspired the peasants to raise their voices for justice and human rights. The worship service, led by various faculty members and students, concluded with the celebration of the Holy Communion, which brought the community together in a time of gratitude and renewal.
The second part of the celebration featured a lively student debate on the theme “A Creed is an Unchangeable Confession of Christian Faith.” Students passionately argued both for and against the motion, creating a theologically rich and engaging dialogue. The celebration continued with an exciting quiz competition on “The History of the Reformation and the Nicene Creed,” where students participated enthusiastically, filling the atmosphere with joy, learning, and fellowship. On behalf of the Department of Christian Theology and Ethics, heartfelt thanks to our Principal, faculty colleagues, and the entire Gurukul staff for their invaluable support and cooperation. Special appreciation also goes to the student body and its leadership for their active and spirited participation, making this Reformation Day celebration truly meaningful and memorable. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1GwwcXgiH1/
